Carpoon is a device, that when properly deployed, will drastically |

reduce the hazards associated with the apprehension of criminals attempting to elude law enforcement personnel in a vehicle, while at the same time, aid in the identification and location of such a vehicle. |

Description and Deployment: The Carpoon is a small, missile shaped projectile that can be fired from a portable launcher or from a vehicle such as a police car. It will pierce the body of a suspect vehicle, as in the trunk area, mechanically remain in place, and immediately function as designed. Namely, the Carpoon will use one or more of the following to effect locating the suspect vehicle. |

1. High visibility smoke. |

2. A loud audible sound. |

3. A high visibility flashing light. |
||||||||

4. A high heat generator. |
||||||||

5. Radio signals |

Instead of engaging in a high speed chase, the law enforvement personnel would fire the Carpoon into the fleeing vehicle. The officer could then back off should safety dictate. The suspect vehicle could still be easily followed because of the alerts being emitted by the Carpoon, in either daylight or nighttime. |

During a traffic stop, an officer could have a remote trigger for the Carpoon as they approached the suspect vehicle on foot. Should the vehicle attempt to flee, the officer could immediately launch the Carpoon into the vehicle. It is very likely that a suspect driving a vehicle which had been “Carpooned” would want to stop and distance themselves from the vehicle rather than try to elude police in the vehicle, which would be futile. Futile because wherever they went, their vehicle would stand out and the general public would be “911 ing” their location. Also, it would be apparent to nearby citizens that the occupants of the vehicle could be dangerous. Carpoon is still being developed and tested, and any input, critical or otherwise is welcome and will seriously be considered. The main objective of using Carpoon is to reduce the need for high speed auto chases, which at best are extremely dangerous for everyone in the vicinity. Liability for damage during such a high speed chase would be greatly reduced if not eliminated. This site will be updated as we develop and refine Carpoon.
